Kindergarten
The goal of the Kindergarten program at Byron Center Christian School is to build eager, life-long learners of God’s remarkable creation who are emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually motivated to glorify Jesus and bear his image in their daily walk with him. Our Kindergarten classes mark the beginning of an exciting, Christ-centered educational experience.

Curriculum:
At BCCS, God’s Word is the basis of every subject, every day, in every grade. Students learn that because all things are created by God, they are worthy of our care and concern. Highlights of the approach taken in Kindergarten to teach these concepts include:
Balanced Literacy: We recognize that children advance through learning stages at different rates. With the Balanced Literacy program, each child is poised to develop at his or her own pace as they cultivate strategies to become fluent readers. Zoo-phonics is just one part of our Balanced Literacy program. In Handwriting Skills, a related topic, we use the D’Nealian system.
Everyday Mathematics: Created by the University of Chicago, this excellent program relies on discussion, experimentation, and play. The children will acquire an enthusiasm for mathematics and a “problem-solving mind-set” that contributes to a better understanding of mathematical concepts.
Science: Kindergarten science is presented in such a way that students not only observe the wonders of God’s creation with bright eyes and open minds, but are encouraged to question why and how, and are further enabled to investigate the answers to those questions.
Bible: The Bible series aims to present the Bible as the story of God’s acts and words, written so that his people might know God and themselves, accept his gift of salvation, and live lives of joyful service and obedience.

EC/MC (Early Childhood/Multi-age Classroom)
Our EC/MC program is designed both for children who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten at BCCS and would benefit from further reinforcement of the concepts being taught in that curriculum, as well as for children who have completed a preschool program, but would profit from extra classroom time and nurturing before entering kindergarten (similar to DK or Young 5’s). The program will stimulate learning by incorporating music, art projects, science experiments, Bible stories, literature, creative drama, and math games. The two-year curriculum is designed so if students choose to attend EC/MC both before and during their kindergarten years, they will enjoy fresh material.
EC/MC will meet all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:25–3:23, and on Friday afternoons, from 12:20–3:23.
