I am so grateful that God has led me to Byron Center Christian School! It is a blessing and privilege to teach His children and see them grow in their love for the Lord. I love being able to share my passion for Christ with my students, and I love to see their own faith in action—it is so inspiring!
I graduated from Cornerstone University in May of 2009. Since then, I have worked as an assistant teacher at Creative Kids in Hudsonville, a lead teacher at Zeeland Community Preschool, a paraprofessional in the special education program at Hudsonville Christian Middle School, and now I am the preschool teacher at BCCS!
In addition to working with children, I am also passionate about missions. I have been on several short term mission trips where I have participated in children’s ministry programs in Trinidad, India, and Malawi. In my free time I enjoy playing and listening to music, reading, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling/experiencing as much of God’s beautiful world as I can.
Favorite Verse: “But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.’” Isaiah 43:1
It is amazing to look back at God's timing and how He is so faithful. My husband, Luke, and I graduated from Calvin College in May of 2010, got married that July, and moved to Honduras two weeks later to begin our teaching careers. We taught there for two years and were open to staying, but knew that we would love to move back home to the Grand Rapids area if God provided that opportunity. Well, He did! God called me to serve at Byron Center Christian in 5th grade. I taught 5th grade language arts for two years, and then moved to 1st grade for two years. After I became a mom, God provided a part time job for me in preschool. I am so passionate about teaching, but have another love at home. :) Now I get the best of both worlds! I am so thankful to be serving Him no matter where I am.
Teaching is rewarding in many different ways. But one of the greatest blessings is being able to share God's Word and His unconditional love with His children each day. What a wonderful responsibility.
God continues to teach me new things as I grow in Him each day. I am grateful to teach in a place where I am surrounded by those who love Him too!
Favorite Verse: "For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever." Romans 11:36.
I am a child of God. I know I am and I am sure that I am. It is a privilege to share this testimony with some of the smallest of learners every day at BCCS. I am blessed to hear their testimonies too! Their testimonies are the "simplest and the best," and I find that I am learning more than I am teaching on most days. When I look at the paths God has taken me, I can see that I am exactly where he planned for me to be right now. From my college experience at Trinity Christian College and through my teaching and life experiences, God has shown me his faithfulness. I have taught Kindergarten, I have worked with struggling learners in first and second grades, and I have worked closely with students who have special needs. Each of these experiences has prepared my heart and created a longing and desire to be a teacher of preschoolers. My days are filled with joy and I feel God has provided for me richly to be able to be teaching preschool at BCCS.
A favorite verse that has been very meaningful to me is Psalm 91:4. "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
I am grateful to be a part of the staff at BCCS. I am so excited to help nurture the young hearts and minds of our preschoolers as they begin their Christian education. I pray that each student will feel loved and accepted when they are in our classroom and will carry that with them when they walk out the door. I look forward to seeing how each child will grow and develop their unique personalities.
I graduated from Calvin College. I am married to Rob and we have two daughters. Lucy is a student at Unity and Mallory is a student at Jenison Christian. When we aren’t busy driving around to different activities we enjoy playing games together, hitting the beach ball around in our pool or simply hanging out.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 30:21. “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice behind you saying; ‘This is the way; walk in it’.”
I thoroughly enjoy spending my working hours with BCCS preschoolers. Each and every day it is a blessing and privilege to see these precious children learn about their world and God, who made it.
I am married to Wayne and we have 4 children, all graduates of BCCS. I also have two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law. In addition, I have nine grandchildren. I love spending time with our family. My hobbies are collecting recipes and reading.
Favorite Bible Verse: "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His Love endures forever!" Psalm 136:1
I am excited to be working here at BCCS in preschool with Michelle Helder and the preschool students. Each day is a fun, new learning experience with these precious children. The students' excitement for learning and the conversations we have are a joy to be a part of. It is a blessing to be a part of not only their learning experiences; but also their spiritual journey. Showing them how to love God and serve others is a way I can help them become the children God wants them to be.
I graduated from Grand Valley State University and have taught Young 5's, 1st grade and 2nd grade in the Byron Center Public Schools. My husband's name is Denny and we have 4 children who attended BCCS.
Favorite Bible Verse: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
