Third Grade Staff
I have been teaching third grade at BCCS since 1997. I was an aide at BCCS for six years before that. I also taught in New Jersey for two years after I graduated from Calvin College with my AB degree in Education. I also completed my Masters in Reading at Western Michigan University.
I love teaching and I am grateful that God has brought me to this place. I can’t imagine living life without God and the promise of salvation through his son Jesus. I teach in a Christian school so I can share the joy of this belief with my students.
Through my training in Teaching for Transformation, I’ve developed a deep hope for my students. I’ve seen former students walk away from God and the church, and with God’s help I want to do what I can to nurture their faith now and strengthen it for their future. My deep hope for my students is that they will know that they are uniquely created by God to delight in His world and discover their part in His story.
My husband and I have have four children - two sons and two daughters. They are all married. We have six granddaughters and two grandsons. I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. I also enjoy reading, knitting, and crocheting. I'm thankful for the way God has worked in my life, including bringing me to Byron Center Christian School.
Favorite Verse: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8: 38 – 39
I graduated from Calvin College in 1985 with an education degree. I substituted in Grand Rapids before moving to California where I taught many different grade levels. I was blessed to work with some wonderful master teachers who mentored me as I started my career. During this time I also worked with the youth ministry at our church and to date have taken 11 mission trips to Mexico with high school youth.
In 2002 we moved back to Michigan and after our twins started school, I began to substitute at Byron Center Christian School. Since then I have done a variety of things including being an educational assistant in the 3rd - 5th grade classrooms, the 1st & 2nd grade split class, and job sharing in one of our first grade classrooms. I have been teaching third grade for eight years. I have also been the lead teacher for the past 5 years and enjoy using my gifts in this area also.
I have been married to Tracy for 32 years. We are blessed to have 3 boys. They are all studying at Calvin College. We enjoy doing things together as a family.
Favorite Verse: "I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body will also rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." Psalm 16: 8 – 11
I am very grateful that God has placed me in this occupation and I am beyond thankful to be teaching at Byron Center Christian School. I have experienced Christ’s love in many ways throughout my life and because of that, I choose to teach in a Christian School. That way I can share the love that Christ has for us.
I grew up in Zeeland, MI and attended Zeeland and Holland Christian schools. I graduated from Central Michigan University in 2018 with an education degree and a major in Language Arts. I have always loved working with children, I have worked at two Christian summer camps: Great Escape and Right Tree.
In March of 2019, I married my husband and best friend. We have enjoyed creating our home and pursuing God together. In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors in God’s creation or playing card games with my family.
