Learning Targets

Supporting Learning Targets

Supporting targets break down big ideas into small, manageable learning tasks and reach across a handful of lessons. They are the building blocks for long-term targets. Supporting learning targets clearly describe what students will learn and be able to do.

Examples

  • I can apply my understanding of historical context to a text.

  • I can compare Old and New Testament laws.

  • I can identify words in the word family “am.”

  • I can explain motion by using words like push and pull.

Long-Term Learning Targets

Long-term targets are used to connect learning directly to God’s Story. Long-term targets span the course of a unit. They use language from Deep Hope, Storyline, Throughlines, and/or the Habits of Learning.

Examples

  • I can discern the value of God over earthly things.

  • I can demonstrate grit when I encounter difficulties.

  • I can be a light for God by loving the people God loves. I can do this by knowing their culture and their history.

  • We can identify experiences in our own lives when God has shown His character.
